The Landscape

Plains without end,
named for their vastness

The Maasai called this land "Siringet" — the place where the land runs on forever. Today the Serengeti spans nearly 15,000 square kilometers of open grassland, riverine forest and rocky outcrops, largely unbroken by roads or settlement.

It is this scale that sustains the Great Migration — over two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle moving in an unbroken circuit between the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, chasing the rains and the fresh grass that follows them.

"There is a kind of silence here that only comes from distance — the plains simply keep going until the sky takes over."

What Awaits

Highlights of the Serengeti

01

The Great Migration

Follow over two million wildebeest and zebra through their annual circuit, including the dramatic Mara and Grumeti river crossings.

02

Big Cat Country

Africa's densest population of lion, leopard and cheetah, with resident prides easily tracked across the central Seronera Valley.

03

Sunrise Balloon Safaris

Drift silently over the plains at dawn, then land to a champagne breakfast laid out in the bush below.

04

Seronera Valley

A year-round wildlife stronghold where permanent water draws predators and prey alike, regardless of season.

05

Ancient Kopjes

Granite outcrops rising from the grassland — islands of shade, hidden water and denning sites for lion and leopard.

Endless Horizons

A landscape scaled for the eye alone — golden grass meeting sky in every direction, unbroken for as far as you can see.
